Writer's Block: Reminiscing about the Internet

Do you remember the things you did when you first started using the Web and how it has changed your life?

I remember when the Internet first started out; I was in university at the time...majoring in Comp Sci, going for my Bachelor of Science. It was a fascinating world to explore, with lots of new people to meet, interesting graphics and amazing text to read...I've lived most of my life without it, and now I can honestly say that I prefer not to...

When I first started out on the Internet all we had was Archie and Veronica, and the World Wide Web was just starting out. Web pages were the newest thing and we were all a part of it, growing up around computers when we were kids, back in junior high, learning about programming and graphics...this was back when the PC was the newest thing and the turtle was still popular (the precursor to the mouse) I remember creating my 1st Website; it didn't have much on it but I listed a bunch of bands that I was into at the time; I got spammed by a bunch of ppl who were into the same kindof music that I was, but later it got better....

Over time I learned about things like databases and LANs and WANs and other things...I also learned about dialup, as I had my own laptop (my 1st) and I had a modem which dialed-up to a local number....ssssslllloooowwwww....it was 14.4....go figure...I hooked up with a friend or two that knew plenty about computers to fill books, and I learned more tricks of the trade from them, including downloading and managing/listening to mp3 files, and about the wonderful operating system, Linux...

Now the Internet has progressed far beyond what I'd expected back in the late 80's/early 90's when it 1st became popular...

My A.S. Degree
[info]pixxi451
I attended Sacred Heart University, which is located in Fairfield, CT, where I lived both with and without my Grandmother, who helped pay for my college education...

My major is Computer Science, with an emphasis on Information Systems. Basically what that means is I learned how to develop software as a Software Engineer...What that means in normal-speak is that I program computers in various languages (kindof like rl), and can create software from scratch (idea phase)...The languages include C/C++/LPC, BASIC, COBOL, Pascal, Ada, Prolog...

I am only 6 credits away from my Bachelor's of Science, so that means that technically I have a B.S. (at least imho)...I dropped out for love, and haven't looked back. I have seen ads on the tv here in San Diego about various schools to attend, but the only one that even remotely appeals to me is AI, which is the Art Institute of San Diego...Their Video Game Design program is what I am mainly interested in, as I had that dream when I was about 12 y.o., back when I was just learning programming, way back in the 80's when PC's were still a brand new thing...

I went there on a tour and visit with a counselor there, and was impressed by its layout and curriculum...Maybe one of these daze I'll work up the courage and raise some funds to go there...

IgorMUD
[info]pixxi451
IgorMUD is basically a Multi-User Domain/Dungeon, depending on your point of view. It is a text-based RPG that you play on a Linux server, located in Stockholm, Sweden, and was the basis for my travelling to both Atlanta, GA as well as Sweden itself...The game is similar to Dungeons & Dragons, and I have just recently (over the past month or so) been actively playing/killing on it...

It is fascinating because as a wizard, one can learn LPC, or Lars Pensjo (last 'o' with an umlaut over it) C, which is a computer programming language that was developed by the same to create MUDs...Lars Pensjo attended Chalmers University in Gothenburg, where quite a few alumni that I know from the MUD attended as well....

Speaking of my recently playing on it, I have developed a routine/systematic killing, but it is starting to get kinda boring, because I only know so much of the MUD-area...so I think next time around I'm going to start exploring a bit so I can get more familiarized with the MUD and learn about new areas...I have only explored (as of the time of this writing) 4.33% of the MUD, believe it or not, although I have been on it for over 13-someodd years...that is because I am mostly a social MUDder, that is, I am more interested in meeting ppl off the MUD rather than playing, but because lately there haven't been that many mortals on, I have been actively killing by myself, trying to get the hang of actually PLAYING versus just chatting w. friends/acquaintances on the MUD...

Why I Love My Body
[info]pixxi451
Since LiveJournal gave me a topic to discuss in my blog, I thought I'd touch on this subject...

I love my head, because I have nice shoulder-length hair that covers it, and is pretty and soft, emphasizing it and making it attractive to others.   I love my head, because it contains both the Crown and Third Eye chakras, and therefore is very spiritual in nature, and has a lot to offer me in terms of tools to use for my spiritual growth...  I love my head, because it contains my brain, which is a most powerful mental tool which I use regularly.  I love my head, because it is associated w. the Goddess Athena, who is the Goddess of Wisdom, who teaches us about how to approach our lives with the knowledge and understanding of the Ages, whereas we are called to act as the Gods and Goddesses that We all are, the Masters that We all are, and exercise mind control over ourSelves, thus controlling our lives and leading the Highest Good...  I love my head, because it has a nasal piercing, which to me signifies that I am a spiritual person, practising the Hindu and Buddhist traditions of spirituality...  I love my head, because of my two eyes, which see clearly into the future, and see many things which others may not...

I love my neck, because it contains my Throat chakra, and therefore is also a spiritual area to focus on, which is obviously open as I speak of spiritual things and also sing, quite nicely I've been told, in the Soprano/Alto ranges.

I love my shoulders, because they carry with much spiritual and emotional strength.

I love my arms, because they carry objects with great spiritual and physical strength.  I love my hands, because their chakras are open and Reiki is channeled through them, so I can heal others with them.

I love my chest, because it contains my Heart and Sacred Heart chakras, therefore making it a spiritual area, as well as two beautiful breasts, which are obviously attractive to the opposite sex...  I love my chest, because it contains my two lungs, which are the organs for breathing, which is a spiritual activity, although it is also a physical one...

I love my stomach and trunk, because they contain my Solar Plexus and Abdominal chakras, which makes them spiritual areas...  I love my stomach because it contains my reproductive organs, which are my centers of Power, which make me a Woman/Goddess, and I have exercised that power by creating a child 16 years ago as of the time of this writing...  I love my stomach because it is the center of Fertility as well as digestion, where the controls for everything are centered.

I love my hips, as they are attractive to the opposite sex.  I love my buttocks for the same reason.  ;)  I love my buttocks, as they have my Root chakra, which also make them a spiritual area...

I love my legs, because they carry me to whereever I choose to go...  They are a symbol of my inner/outer strength, which supports me and keeps me strong in moments of weakness/temptation/suffering...

I love my feet, because they support me at the ground level, and also contain chakras of their own, and are therefore spiritual in their own right...  I love my feet, because they are the tail end of my grounding whenever I ground and center...

Countries I'd Love to Visit
[info]pixxi451
When I was a little grrl, about 7-8 years old, my father (retired U.S. Army) was transferred to Nurnberg, Germany....My mother swears to this day that I spoke German like a native....I am working towards re-learning that language, as I have forgotten/pushed the language back into the recesses of my memory....Germany is a very sweet country, I am proud of them for knocking down the Berlin Wall, and finally declaring Oneness, as we should all do....

Just recently I spent about 3 years in Sweden, and I have to say I LOVE that country, with its eco-consciousness, its spirituality, its culture and language, many of its famous celebrities (incl. Ace of Base, Roxette, Isabella Rosellini, Europe, Army of Lovers, Thomas DiLeva [my guru]), and all that it holds for its visitors/residents...  Jag saknar Moder Svea!!!!

I also visited/lived in Mexico for about 1 mth.; the poverty level there is so great it is amazing how anyone can survive down there....I lived in what would basically be called a "shotgun shack,' there was no hot running water, no laundry facilities....all the things that we take for granted here in the U.S. just didn't exist down there, and I feel compelled to help those down there as well as around the world who struggle w. poverty...that is part of my Life's Work....I studied Spanish since High School, and learned it also in University when I went to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT....I consider myself to be a little fluent; at least I could go down to Mexico/South/Central America/Spain and not get TOTALLY lost.....I'd be able to find restaurants, hotels, etc....

I would also LOVE to visit Jamaica, and the Netherlands, you know why.... ;)

R.I.P. Michael Jackson
[info]pixxi451
I know this is probably beating a dead horse, sorry about the bad pun....

I just feel that the world has just lost one of the best performers ever to come to us as a society, and I just cried my eyes out over him the other night, listening to his music on BearShare and reading posts on his homepage....I realize that I am not the only one who feels this way, it is just such a f***ing shame that he had to go and leave us so early in the game, but I know that he and the God/dess mutually decided that it was his time to goto the Summerland, to prepare a place for the rest of us when we die....

I only hope that instead of focussing on the negative, eg. child molestation, weird habits, etc. we can remember his goodness, incl. when he was participating in singing that wonderful song "We Are The World," which focussed on helping the starving in Africa...He had a most excellent heart, very deep and wide, and he loved especially the children, and himself had a very childlike spirit that everyone was awed and amazed by...He will live forever in his music and his legacy, and I will always remember him as the King of Pop, when he was absolutely huge back in the 80's, when I was going to Junior High School and just "learning" about life and what my place in the Multiverses was...EVERYONE wanted to be him and wear the leather zippered jacket, the glove, the Moonwalk that he will forever be remembered for...

I am STILL downloading songs by him, and by doing so, listening to his music, I honour him and his passing from this life to the next, so either he went to Nirvana or he reincarnated as yet another talented person...We will see as time goes on...I am looking forward to my death as I will get to see Michael as well as all the legends who have prepared the Summerland for us to meet them when our turn comes...

Medicinal Marijuana
[info]pixxi451

Well, this topic had to come up sooner or later, so I might as well get this over with and start typing about one of my passions, medicinal marijuana, or the Indian hemp plant.....

It is a wonderful medicine/food/fuel/fiber and is basically what I consider as a Xtian Witch to be "the Herb of Great Renown..." if you remember your Old Testament it refers to this....and I believe it with all my heart that God/dess gave us this herb to heal the planet.....As I am a Xtian Wiccan I feel this is very important, especially for those such as the following:

Christians for Cannabis  http://christiansforcannabis.com/e107/news.php

The Emperor Wears No Clothes Online  http://www.jackherer.com/chapters.html

Hopefully these 2 sites should enlighten you a little more about cannabis..... :)

This site, all the testimonials say it works, so I'm putting it right here....

I smoke about 2-3 times a day with my roommate, who is my caregiver...I just got my prescription for the year renewed a few wks. ago....Here in Sunny CA it is quite legal to use, I consider us to be the Amsterdam of America :)  I like it because it brings you to the Alpha state pretty quickly and you can meditate with it quite nicely....it works for me when I am saying my mantras and they are helping me to focus on the mantras and my voices (auditory hallucinations, according to the psychiatrists) become slowly but surely in the background.....so God/dess is good to me, giving me that holy plant, healing my emotions/mind  (It is good for my manic anxiety and my ptsd, not to mention pmdd) and body and soul, giving me the God/dess State....where we ALL are at but most of us have forgotten, this is a call to wake up, you are God/dess incarnate, remember that always......*Hugs to all who read this* :)
